Street Atlas USA®
FAST START-UP TIMES WITH NEW IMPROVED MAP CLARITY
Right off, you’ll notice Street Atlas USA starts up much faster than before. On many of today’s faster computers, the program will be available in just seconds. This is especially important for in-vehicle GPS usage when you want to get up and running quickly.
You’ll also see we took the advice of many of our best customers and enhanced the legibility and clarity of our maps, directions, and function tabs. For one thing, the exit numbers and symbols are much larger and more readable. The last thing you need is to have an exit sneak up on you when you’re traveling 65 mph.
IMPROVED ROAD LABELING, DIRECTIONS, AND SEARCHING

Street Atlas USA clearly labels multiple-name roads. Previously, the program might have indicated you were traveling on County Road, but the posted signs said it was Route 22. This newest version eliminates confusion by showing both labels.
Because every intersection isn’t a right angle, we’ve also added useful, real-world directions such as “keep left” and “bear left” to improve your decision-making in unfamiliar locations.
EASIER TO READ WITH LARGE FONTS

We know that you often need to do “on the fly” searches as you travel. But, in a moving vehicle, it’s not always easy for the passenger to type/read on a laptop screen. Result? Typos that produce incorrect searches. Now, the QuickSearch window expands for a larger font, so it’s easier to see what’s been typed, and correct errors, for more accurate searches.
SUPERIOR, USER-DEFINED BACK-ON-TRACK GPS SETTINGS AND OPTIONS

We’ve greatly improved the precision and response of the program’s back-on-track decision making. First off, it is defaulted on so it automatically works unless you turn it off. In addition, you can now define your own off-course distance settings for triggering the back-on-track feature. There are times when just being a block off course can be a potential nightmare. Other times, you might prefer a broader tolerance...perhaps for a spur of the moment side trip. Whatever the reason, it’s nice to have the flexibility to choose; and, when you can select distances of 50 feet up to 25 miles, you have an enormous degree of flexibility.
And the new GPS Options window is much larger and easier to use. This is the place to set your high-contrast map options and other important GPS settings to help customize your experience.
ENJOY MORE ACCURATE AND EASY-TO-USE PLACES OF INTEREST MANAGEMENT

We’ve added a POI search button in the Find tab to help assure you get the closest matches for your searches. You can locate POIs by name (Wal-marts, for example) or by user-defined keyword (restaurant, lodging, etc), all within the distance parameters you select. And, to give you even more control over the look of your maps, you can now determine the magnification level at which your POI icons appear. Determine the POI density for a large area, or keep the map uncluttered until you drill in closer. It’s your choice. Overall, there are 4 million updated POIs in Street Atlas USA.
EASY TO USE…EASY TO READ…EASY TO FOLLOW
At the same time we’ve been adding these advanced new features, we’ve also been making Street Atlas USA 2005 easier to use. For example, we’ve simplified file and route management. Now, all you have to do is create your map file, name it, and save it. (Note: if working with multiple Draw and Route Layers on the same map is important to you, we suggest stepping up to Street Atlas USA 2005 Plus.)
The ease with which you can now save your maps is especially important if you travel frequently. Customize your maps exactly the way you want, showing the places you’d like to revisit, then Save your map file for future usage. Saved DeLorme map files can always be brought forward into future versions of the software.
There’s also a large, highly-visible button that lets you instantly re-center your map on your GPS location. This is especially useful if you’re doing POI searches or other “Find” queries that will take the map center away from your route.
We’ve also inserted mini-tutorials that appear automatically when you click on certain tabs and buttons, and then fade out. These mini-tutorials help you get more out of the program by explaining functions that you may not have used before. If you don’t want them to appear, you can easily disable them. We also encourage every customer to take the Getting Started tutorial included in the Welcome Screen of the software
"DeLorme is the GREATEST! I drive a tractor-trailer rig over the road and use your Street Atlas USA software constantly. I'll never go back to using maps! I own three different programs, DeLorme, Rand McNally Deluxe and Microsoft 2003, and comparing DeLorme to the others is like comparing a F22 fighter to a Model T Ford!"
